Who Are We?

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to help boys learn, develop and grow in a safe, caring environment and to help families bring up moral, civic-minded leaders. We will place the well-being of the boys ahead of any other considerations and we will respect the needs of our constituent families at all times.

MEETINGS

Troop meetings are held most Mondays during the school year from 7:30-8:30 pm

Our Trail to First Class and Trail to Eagle programs meet for 30 minutes prior to the Troop meeting

The Monday meeting following each camp-out is less formal and allows focus on leadership, advancement, and small group activities

We closely follow the Richardson and Plano Independent School District calendars

Our meeting location:
Arapaho United Methodist Church
1400 W. Arapaho Rd. Richardson, TX
(the northeast corner of Coit and Arapaho in Richardson)

ANNUAL PROGRAM

We keep the "outing" in Scouting by camping monthly from Sept-Nov. and Jan.-May.

  • Fall Camp-outs generally depart Saturday morning around and return Sunday afternoon
(This helps to avoid conflicts with band, football, and spirit groups)
  • Spring Camp-outs generally depart Friday evening and return Sunday afternoon.
  • Camp-out themes include fishing, swimming, canoeing, caving, hiking, shooting, bicycling, orienteering, and more!
  • Most camping locations are within about three hours from Richardson

In early June, Troop 444 spends a week at a Summer Camp selected by our Scouts. Fun is always part of the adventure, with a healthy curriculum of rank advancement and Merit Badge classes. Of course, there is plenty of unscheduled time for boys to kick back in camp or hang out with buddies, as well. We annually alternate between a local summer camp (Usually Constantin) with an out of state summer camp. We will visit Hale Scout Reservation in Oklahoma this summer.

Most recently, we have visited:

  • Constantin (2011, 2013, 2017)
  • Camp Wehinahpay in New Mexico (2012, 2016)
  • Kerr Scout Ranch in Oklahoma (2015)
  • Camp Bartle in Missouri (2014)
  • Spanish Peaks in Colorado (2012)

For the remainder of summer, casual and fun activities can be arranged such as a Roughriders baseball game in Frisco, Whirly Ball, Broom Ball, or Laser Tag.

On winter break, we spend a few days at Winter Camp at Clements Scout Ranch. The time of year and location make this a very different experience than summer camp.  The Scouts have fun, are productive, and enjoy the cool weather & time with buddies in a relaxed outdoor environment.

HIGH ADVENTURE

The Troop has a very active High Adventure program.
(There are normally multiple opportunities to participate every year)

We traditionally visit Philmont (the closest nationals BSA base to Richardson) every other year, and rotate through the other three high adventure camps in alternating years:

  • Philmont Scout Ranch (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019)
  • Sea Base (2012, 2017, 2018)
  • Northern Tier Canoe Base (2014, 2018)
  • Bechtel Reserve (2019)

EXTRAS

In addition to the BSA High Adventure programs, the troop also organizes other exciting trips:
